Susan made the plate using a slab roller, then after the preliminary firing, I glazed it in the Matt White glaze and then gave it back to her to paint the kitties. She does this by hand, no stencils are used, and it is actually a very difficult process, much more so than china painting. The glazes don't resemble the colors at all, and they don't flow. So we don't even know how the plates will actually look until after the firing. The designs are permanent, so it will never fade or rub off. Plates are about 11 by 9 inches and are functional, so can be used in the oven, microwave and dishwasher.
